In celebration of World Quantum Day, UBC’s Blusson Quantum Matter Institute is hosting a family & fiends day featuring an exciting program of lab tours, science demos and science engagement activities.
Lab Tours
The following labs will be open to the public. Volunteers will give brief explanations of each lab:
• The Scanning Tunneling Microscopy Lab
• The Ultrafast Spectroscopy Lab
• The Quantum Materials Lab
• The 2D Materials Lab
• The Photonics & Nanostructures Lab
• The Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy Lab
Superconductor Track
Our famous superconductor track will be on display throughout the event, run by the one and
only James Day.
Astronomy Station
Stop by a cosmic experience run by Jess McIver.
Refreshments and Ice Cream
Coffee will be available in the morning. Ice cream for the event will be hosted by Mona Berciu!
Merch
Kids will receive QMI stickers and buttons.
Fun Passport
Kids (and adults?) will be provided with an event passport to explore the building and express their artistic skills.
Socialize
The event is a great opportunity to socialize with the QMI community. Mingle with other QMI
parents and friends in the lobby area, while exploring the building, or at the rest areas.
