Quantum Physics: from Foundations to Technologies alt

On Monday 14 April, starting at 3:00 p.m., in room A of the the Department of Physics of the University of bari (Italy), we will celebrate the World Quantum Day with three speakers who have made a fundamental contribution to the research and dissemination of quantum technologies in Europe and around the world.

Quantum Physics: from Foundations to Technologies will feature on stag

  • Gunnar Björk, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, who was the President of the Quantum Optics and Electronics Division of the European Physical Society and a member of the Board of Directors of the European Optical Society.
  • Gerd Leuchs, Max Planck for the Science of Light, Erlangen, an institute he helped found; received the 2005 European Physical Society Prize for Optics and Quantum Electronics and was President of Optica (formerly the Optical Society of America)
  • Hugo Zbinden, Université de Genève, CH & Univesidad de Vigo, made a major contribution to the development of quantum cryptography and founded one of the first quantum technology companies.

The event is organized by the Department of Physics of the University of Bari, recognized as a Department of Excellence by the Italian Ministery for University, within 3 sinergic projects: QUASIMODO (Quantum Sensing and Modeling for One-Health), National Institute of Quantum Science and Technology (NQSTI), and the National Research Center in HPC, Big Data and Quantum Computing (ICSC).

The event will offer participants the opportunity to learn how, both at a local and national level, the so-called second quantum revolution is involving the world of education and business in a challenge to maintain the leadership that Europe has achieved in this field in recent years.

The University of Bari is particularly active in the field of quantum science and technology, with a group of over fifty researchers engaged in both basic research and technology transfer, and offering a second-level postgraduate Master's degree from 2024 in close collaboration with leading national and international companies in the sector.
